From Rocky Ridges onwards, many recipes in Pokémon Pokopia ask for processed metals: copper, iron and gold ingots, Pokémetal and Rare Pokémetal. All of them come out of the same machine, the **Smelting furnace**, which turns raw ore into ingots with the help of a fire Pokémon. This guide explains how to set it up and where to farm every kind of ore.

        ## How the Smelting furnace works

            - You find the first Smelting furnace during the **Rocky Ridges** story, and later you get its recipe so you can craft more for other towns.

            - Place it near a Pokémon with the **Burn** specialty, such as Magmar, Charmander or Torchic. The furnace does nothing without one.

            - Put ore inside and the Burn Pokémon processes it. The conversion is one to one: 5 copper ore become 5 copper ingots.

            - **Copper ore** breaks with a normal Rock Smash.

            - **Iron ore** deposits are tougher: eat a **hamburger steak** first to power up Rock Smash, or you will not be able to break them.

            - **Litter Pokémon:** Glimmet and Glimmora bring you iron ore every day without any effort.

        ## Pokémetal and Rare Pokémetal

Pokémetal is used for advanced furniture, the Sparkling Skylands Pokémon Center (25 of them) and as payment for the 3D Printer, so you will always want more. Besides smelting fragments, there are two easier routes:

            - **The shop:** each area sells Pokémetal from Environment Level 6 and Rare Pokémetal from level 7.

            - **Dream Islands:** the Clefairy Doll island is full of metal deposits, and the Eevee and Starmie Doll islands can contain ready-made Pokémetal.

        > **Tip:** build a small “factory” in Rocky Ridges: two or three furnaces, a Burn Pokémon living next to each one and a storage box in the middle. Drop your ore there after every Dream Island trip and collect the ingots the next time you pass by.
