Gyarados teaches Waterfall in Sparkling Skylands. Bring the abilities to glide, swim and break rocks. The food needed for the request can be found nearby, so you do not have to solve its cooking recipe first.
Finding Gyarados and the requested food
- Travel to the northwestern island of Sparkling Skylands and look for Gyarados in the pool below its waterfall. Speak to it to start the food request.
- Explore the ruins above that pool. Follow the climb through the nearby cave and up towards the ruined kitchen area.
- Break the cracked rock wall near the kitchen. Open the red Poké Ball behind it to collect the bread filled with hot soup.
- Return to Gyarados and hand over the requested dish. Finish the conversation to learn Waterfall.
Climbing a waterfall
Use Surf to take the swimming form, approach the falling water and press A in front of it. The ability is used from the water, not by standing on the bank or pressing the ordinary jump button.
Turning waterfalls into travel routes
Once you can move water sources, a waterfall can become a vertical route for a tall build. Leave a pool and enough room at the bottom to approach it while swimming. You can also climb a waterfall and then start Glide to reach another island. Check the landing height before launching rather than assuming gliding can lift you higher.
