A railway needs connected tracks and a Handcar to ride. Crossing gates turn parts of the route into stopping points, and two connected crossings allow Pokémon to use handcars on their own. Start with a short tested route before laying a whole regional network.

Create a working first section
- Find the railway-track recipe by the entrance to Rocky Ridges' mine and learn the Handcar recipe after obtaining a Copper ingot. Prepare enough track for an uninterrupted line.
- Lay the route on suitable ground and check the joins and corners. Place a Handcar directly on the connected rails and test the trip before extending it.
- Follow Carkol's crossing-related request for the Crossing gate recipe. Place crossings near the track at both useful ends so the line has accessible stopping points.
Bring companions or encourage independent rides
Additional connected handcars let small Pokémon ride with you. For independent travel, connect two crossings and give residents access from their homes and destinations. Very large Pokémon are not guaranteed passengers, so test your intended helpers rather than planning around every species fitting.
If the cart stops unexpectedly
Look for disconnected rails, another cart on the line or a crossing where a brief stop is intended. Put away unused carts instead of leaving a parked vehicle across the route. A crossing's stop is normal behavior; it does not mean the rails need an electrical power supply.
