Cooking starts during the story in Rocky Ridges, before you free Chef Dente from the hanging barrel. The rescue depends on two meals, so repeatedly using an unpowered Cut on the chain will not help.
Prepare the first salad
- After restoring the PC, follow the professor to the hanging barrel and try to cut its chain. Take the habitat hint from the conversation.
- Near the crops and minecart tracks, use Strength to move the boulder towards the pointy tree. Add the required tall grass to complete Pointy tree-shaded rocky tall grass.
- Meet Dartrix, place the perch it requests near its home and receive the cutting-board recipe.
- Craft and place the board. Prepare the simple salad with two leaves and eat it to strengthen Leafage.
Get bread and break the chain
- Explore the hot-spring cave reached from the minecart tracks. Use strengthened Leafage to grow four moss patches beside the hot water, completing Mossy hot spring.
- Meet Torkoal and make a continuous route so it can follow you out to the Pokémon Center. Complete its request for the bread-oven recipe.
- Build the oven, arrange fire for it and prepare bread using wheat. Eat the bread before returning to the barrel.
- Use strengthened Cut on the chain to release Chef Dente, then finish the rescue conversation.
Keep cooking after the rescue
Continue the local requests to obtain the remaining utensils. Place pans and pots on a working heat source and bring any helper required by the recipe. Meal effects last while the corresponding yellow energy lasts; if an obstacle stops responding, eat the matching food again. Keep the utensils after the story task so you can prepare supplies before later trips.
