You can permanently increase your maximum PP to work for longer between meals. Food restores spent energy, but eating does not permanently increase the maximum.

Buying a permanent upgrade
- Raise an area's environment level to 3. Progress in another region does not count towards this local requirement.
- Open that area's PC shop and look for PP Up. Save some of the currency earned from challenges to buy it.
- The upgrade takes effect when purchased. Check your energy bar before setting off again.
- Check the PC shops in your other regions too. Each has its own stock, so buying one upgrade does not exhaust every area's supply.
Restoring spent PP
Pack food before a long trip. Berries and edible crops restore energy, while cooked meals can also temporarily strengthen certain moves. A meal's yellow energy bar represents a temporary effect; it does not replace a permanent upgrade.
A restored Pokémon Center also has a recovery machine. Its free recovery is limited to once per day, so keep food for later trips.
If the upgrade is missing
Check the local environment level and whether you have already bought that shop's upgrade. A larger maximum also means that a small snack may only refill part of the bar: increasing capacity does not make every food restore all your energy.
