Mosslax, the moss-covered Snorlax sleeping in Bleak Beach, is one of the most useful Pokémon in Pokémon Pokopia once it wakes up. Its specialty is Eat: put a piece of food on its offering dish and, depending on the flavor, your whole game gets a boost that lasts for the rest of the in-game day. This guide explains how to unlock it, what every flavor does and which dishes give the strongest effect.

How to wake Mosslax
- Raise your Trainer Rank until Bleak Beach opens and start its story requests.
- After a few requests, Meowth and Trubbish start talking about a strange noise. Follow them and you will find Mosslax asleep between the rocks of a cave. You cannot do anything with it yet.
- Keep going with the main story of Bleak Beach (the part where you light up the area). At the end of that chain a legendary Pokémon breaks into the cave and Mosslax finally wakes up.
- Once it is awake you can build its habitat, the Gourmet's altar. It only needs one Offering dish, so you can set it up in any town you like.
How offerings work
- Stand right in front of the dish, press A and pick a food from your Bag. Mosslax eats it straight away and the buff starts.
- You can feed it once per day. The effect stays active until the day changes at 5:00 AM.
- The effect depends on the dominant flavor of the food, and its strength depends on how elaborate the food is.
| Food type | Examples | Buff strength |
|---|---|---|
| Raw ingredients | Berries, vegetables, drinks | Weak |
| Simple dishes | Simple salad, Simple soup, Simple bread, Simple hamburger steak | Standard |
| Special dishes | Fluffy bread, Crouton salad, Flavorful soup, Bitter hamburger steak… | Strong |
What every flavor does
| Flavor | Effect | Weak / Standard / Strong |
|---|---|---|
| No flavor | You become friends with Pokémon faster | Slight / More / A lot |
| Bitter | More rare items: extra sparkling ripples and whirlpools, more honey | +1 / +2 / +3 ripples and +2 / +3 / +4 honey |
| Dry | Lugia and Ho-Oh appear more often to drop their feathers | Slight / More / A lot |
| Sour | The shop is more likely to stock good items, with a discount | Discount level 1 / 2 / 3 |
| Spicy | Pokémon appear more often in habitats | Slight / More / A lot |
| Sweet | More ancient artifacts (glowing blocks with relics and fossils) | +3 / +6 / +9 per area |
Best dish for each flavor
Any food with the right flavor works, but these dishes trigger the strongest version of each buff:
- No flavor: Vibrant hamburger steak.
- Bitter: Bitter hamburger steak.
- Dry: Crushed-berry salad.
- Sour: Flavorful soup.
- Spicy: Crouton salad, Bread bowl or Healthy soup.
- Sweet: Fluffy bread.
If you have not unlocked those recipes yet, a single berry still works: Leppa Berry (no flavor), Rawst Berry (bitter), Chesto Berry (dry), Aspear Berry (sour), Pecha Berry (sweet) or a carrot (spicy). The effect is just smaller.
Which buff to use and when
- Hunting fossils, Lost Relics or Mew's mural slabs: go Sweet before breaking glowing blocks with the Dowsing Machine.
- Missing Lugia or Ho-Oh feathers: Dry, then fly around the area during the day.
- Filling the Pokédex: Spicy on the day you build new habitats.
- Big shopping day: Sour before buying kits and recipes from the PC shop.
- Pushing Comfort and friendship: No flavor while you talk to and gift your Pokémon.
Tip: cook a batch of the six strong dishes in advance and keep them in a storage box. That way you can pick the right buff every morning without having to gather ingredients first.
