What to do before searching for the Legendary Dogs?
Before heading to any Dream Island, there are essential prerequisites you must fulfill.
First, you need to unlock access to the Dream Islands via Drifloon. This becomes available during your quests in the Withered Wastelands. Head out to the coast nearby the bridge leading to Palette Town, where you'll find Drifloon floating about. You must build a habitat using three Campfires and locate the Pokémon Doll on the opposite side of the Withered Wastelands to bring Drifloon to your village.
Second, progress through the main story until you encounter Raikou at Bleak Beach. This story encounter automatically registers Raikou in your Pokédex, although it doesn't bring it to your village yet. However, this serves as the trigger that actually makes the three Legendary Dogs start appearing on the Dream Islands.
Third, unlock the Kitchen and the ability to cook Hamburger Steaks, a food that boosts the Crush specialty. This ability is absolutely essential to break down the blocked cave walls where each legendary dog hides.
Which Pokémon Dolls do you need?
Each Legendary Dog is tied to a specific Dream Island, and each island requires its own Pokémon Doll to access. You can find the Pikachu Doll and Eevee Doll at Bleak Beach, and all three dolls can be bought at the Pokémon Center in Palette Town once your Environmental Level is high enough. Sparkling spots on the ground may also drop random dolls.
It's recommended to buy all three Dolls in advance at the Pokémon Center so you're always ready to visit any island when the chance arises.
How to find Raikou on the Oceanic Dream Island
Holding the Pikachu Doll, travel to the Oceanic Dream Island. Make your way to the central mountain and head down into the cave system at its core. Follow the paths downwards, keeping an eye out for an area lined with steel blocks that have gaps in the wall. This blocked section is Raikou's lair.
Use Crush to break your way in, talk to Raikou, and then head back to Drifloon to leave the island. Before leaving, grab the 3x Rare Pokémon Metal sitting on the pedestal behind Raikou. This material is incredibly useful!
How to find Entei on the Volcanic Dream Island
The Arcanine Doll will take you to the Volcanic Dream Island. This is a lava-cracked mountain that looks much more dangerous on the outside than it actually is on the inside. Head straight to the mountain entrance and go down the cave passages. When you spot a corner sealed by Lava Blocks, you've found Entei!
Crush your way through, appreciate the Fire-type Legendary, and talk to Entei to bring it with you. Collect the 3x Rare Pokémon Metal from the pedestal before you depart.
How to find Suicune on the Wasteland Dream Island
Suicune hides on the Wasteland Dream Island, which is accessed using the Eevee Doll. The process remains the same: head to the rocky central area, enter the cave system, and walk down until you see Ice Blocks blocking a passageway. Ice is a rare material in Pokopia, so pick up any loose pieces you see along the way.
Break the ice barrier to reach Suicune, speak with it, and return to Drifloon. The 3x Rare Pokémon Metal here are just as valuable as the others, so make sure to collect them.
Legendary Dog Encounters and Rewards
The encounters are never guaranteed on every visit. The most reliable way to check if a Legendary is present without roaming the whole cave system is to open your Pokédex upon arriving, set the search filter to "All" with Location set to "This Area". If a "?" symbol appears in the results, a Legendary is on the island! If there is no "?", you can skip the search and return the next day.
Once all three dogs live in your village, the game rewards you with the recipe for the Clear Bell. This is the key ingredient needed to befriend Ho-Oh, one of the rarest Legendary encounters in Pokémon Pokopia.
